Lectures, events and congresses
The Sustainability Science Centre promotes awareness and discussion of the sustainability challenges facing society - as well as their potential solutions - in the general public. Thus, an important function of the Centre is to host Sustainability Lecture Series where leading international figures in sustainability are invited to give open lectures. The Series started in 2011 and builds on the highly successful Climate Lectures Series hosted by the University from 2008 – 2010.
The centre also holds debate evenings in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Denmark, where different researchers from the University of Copenhagen and other experts present and discuss sustainability topics with each other and the audience (in Danish).
For students, the SSC arranges student workshops where they can meet like-minded peers from all across the University, and receive exclusive inputs from professors and teachers at UCPH on sustainability issues. This also provides insight into- and experience with working in an interdisciplinary setting.
Prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15), the University of Copenhagen hosted an International Scientific Congress on climate change, 10-12 March 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Furthermore, the Sustainability Science Centre hosted the IARU Sustainability Science Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark 22-24 October 2014.”
